The worldwide health emergency on Corona virus or Covid-19, is having its impact in India too. Every day new cases are reported. The Government of India is taking all necessary steps to ensure that we are prepared well to face this challenge. The most important factor in preventing the spread of the Virus locally is to empower the citizens with the right information and take precautions as per the advisories being issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Keeping the situation in mind, we all at SOFKIN consciously ensured the safety and well-being of the children and staff. The following precautions and preventive measures have been taken to tackle the situation.

  1. All the children and staff are staying in home; no one is allowed to go out. Schools and colleges have declared a holiday until at least 31st March, 2020.

  2. All the children are being given vitamin C and a multivitamin tablet on alternate day’s to boost their immunity.

  3. The children have been educated on preventive measures.

  4. They are all washing their hand for 20 seconds as per WHO guidelines.

  5. Children are doing their regular exercise, and they are having healthy, freshly prepared, nutritious food.

  6. They are drinking an Immunity boosting decoction prepared with pepper, cumin, ginger, and fresh lime. All the children consume this in the morning.

  7. We are doing regular cleaning and sterilizing of the entire home on a regular basis.

  8. Preventive measures information has been displayed in areas where the children spend most of the time for them to refer to whenever they’d like.

  9. All the staff has been educated and they are using gloves to carry out their work.

  10. In case any child falls sick, we have separate rooms to care for them.

  11. No visitors or guardians are allowed to visit.

  12. No outside food is allowed.

  13. The children’s surroundings are kept clean.

  14. All the children are maintaining personnel hygiene, including frequent bathing.

  15. All the children are praying for wellbeing of all.

The children have also been preparing food packages for neighbors in need. You can read about there activities on our blog page. We hope everyone is staying safe, and we will keep you informed of the children and their progress.

Thank you,

SOFKIN Responds to Neighbors in Need

We at SOFKIN would like to thank all our supporter, donors and friends who contributed last year to help people who were affected by the epidemic. Last year we could reach one thousand one hundred families and provide provisions to them with your help.

As COVID-19 surges in India, the pandemic continues to worsen.  More and more children are in desperate need.  Many children whose parents are sick or in the hospital are left to fend for themselves and were scared, tired and hungry.  They had no one to care for them, nowhere else to go. Children are being orphaned as a result of the COVID-19 deaths of their parents.  The local child welfare committee reached out to SOFKIN to see if we could provide temporary shelter to these children who were found wandering around by themselves.

We are making an urgent appeal to all of SOFKIN’s supporters to help us provide relief to children caught in this pandemic humanitarian crisis.  With your help, SOFKIN would like to provide a month of temporary shelter for twenty children whose parents are sick with COVID and unable to care for them.

For $60 a month, SOFKIN will be able to provide food, shelter, clothing, medical and educational facilities for a destitute child due to COVID-19

A second need relates to the fact that India’s health care system is simply overwhelmed.  In order to slow the spread of the virus, the government is instructing people to stay home, self quarantine and take medications suggested by the Health Department if they feel they might have been infected.  The list of symptoms and appropriate medications is being circulated in print, electronic and social media. If people see no improvement after 10 days of the prescribed treatments, they are then encouraged to visit the hospital.

However, many people are not able to afford these medications.  SOFKIN proposes to make medical kits that would include all of the medications prescribed by the Health Department, along with N95 masks and sanitizers.  We are planning on providing 200 kits to be distributed to our destitute neighbors in need.

For $15, a Medical Kit containing medications for 10 days, N95 masks and sanitizers would be assembled for those in need

You can make a difference. Your financial contribution will help us address these critical needs in India right now.

Please make a tax deductible contribution today!

We are grateful for everything you do.
