SOFKIN (Support Organization For Kids In Need) is a non-profit organization, registered in New Jersey under 501(c)3 tax exempt status to support the upbringing of underprivileged children, striving to make a difference in their lives.

Chaya Pamula lost her parents at a young age and grew up with an ambition to help orphan and needy children by giving a home where they can be loved and nurtured in a secured environment and treated no different than any child in our own family. Chaya’s desire to start a project for underprivileged children grew stronger over years as she made progress in her career.

In the year 2004, Chaya took a short break from her full time job to focus on her dream project. She visited many orphanages in India to learn about the operations and to find a suitable organization to work with. The operating model of Maher in Pune inspired and encouraged Chaya not only to support Maher project but also to found ‘SOFKIN (Support Organization For Kids In Need) in New Jersey. SOFKIN today supports over 50 children (three homes) in Pune & Hyderabadin India.

SOFKIN is a thin organization with minimal administrative overhead ensuring every dollar raised is utilized in the best possible manner.

SOFKIN works with other nonprofit organizations with similar objectives to strengthen and extend services for the upbringing of underprivileged children in the global community.

SOFKIN’s Belief

We believe in the philosophy that each child should be privileged to receive the same love and care as a child born to a family. We practice our belief by creating SOFKIN homes. The children are not only given food, shelter, clothing, medical and education facilities, but are also given a secured home where they are cared, guided and nurtured by the housemothers.

We believe in inculcating and promoting morality among today’s children, building a strong foundation of principles and values so that the children of today will be the building blocks of a better tomorrow.

SOFKIN’s Objectives

  • Develop compassion, awareness and the spirit of charity to benefit the needy in the community
  • Establish and support SOFKIN homes and provide utmost care and love to underprivileged children
  • Promote family and moral values through books, music and focus groups
  • Inculcate prime values such as Honesty , Integrity , Fairness and Safety among kids
  • Promote child talent by identifying and supporting talented under privileged kids
  • Support and cooperate with persons and organizations already engaged in similar activities

The Global Need

As per a UN study, the number of children without parental care continues to dramatically increase and in the continents of Latin America, Africa and Asia alone where an estimated 200 million children will be orphaned by 2010 and therefore a commitment to children is even more important today than yesterday.

According to a study undertaken by the Economic Policy Institute twenty-nine percent of working families in the United States with one to three children under age 12 do not earn enough income to be able to afford basic necessities like food, housing, health care, and child care.

It is therefore the solemn duty of the society to contribute its mite to the honorable cause of child welfare. We at SOFKIN want to act as a channel to make this happen by undertaking and supporting projects that are in line with the UN goals with respect to children.
