“ He who wishes to secure the good of others, has already secured his own.” ~ Confucius It's been a few weeks since the tragedy at Virginia Tech, and though the controversy surrounding the handling of the situation has died down of late, it is crucial that we do not forget about this event. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, and also to the family of the shooter. Times like these, in the aftermath of such sadness, are those in which we are reminded of the values we hold dear: Service, Onus, Family, Kindness, Integrity, and Nurture. Mainly because, by spreading these values to the children of the world, we can prevent tragedies like this from ever happening. As parts of our own communities, we have to provide one another the service of a support system, to help catch those who have fallen and give them the assistance to get back on track, and to prevent people from falling in the first place. We have the onus of making sure that all parts of our communities work in harmony, and to help people fit into productive roles in the community. We have to be good to our families, and as a community, we must be the guiding force for people who don't have family. We have an obligation to show all of our neighbors the kindness we would like to be shown, no matter who they are and what situations they might be in. We have to have integrity, and take care of strangers as we take care of those dear to us, because we would want the same were the circumstances reversed. And we have to nurture and love our children, so that, as they grow up, they lead happy lives and develop into well-adjusted adults to pass on these values to their own children. As much these shootings hurt us as a community, as a nation, as people, this is the time when we embrace our community. In the wake of this kind of crisis, we are reminded of how important a strong community is, and it causes us to recommit ourselves to preserving and furthering this sense of unity. ~Cara Murray - Member, SYG NJ | |

We are very fortunate to have our friends Vedicsoft Solutions, Mutex Systems, PamTen and Udipi restaurant, who always came forward to sponsor SOFKIN's events. This event wouldn't have been possible without their support. Their sponsorship helped minimizing the expenses allowing us to divert every dollar that is raised towards funding SOFKIN's projects. All our volunteers, with their timely assistance and willingness to help in every possible way madethis event a grand success! The participants from Family Karate Center, Indianica Academy, Tickled Pink from SB school, Tansen Haridas Music Academy, Kromatic Royaly, Koshar Band and Parties With Petals, made this evening colorful and entertaining with their wonderful performances. Last but not the least, the SOFKIN Youth Group demonstrated their committment towards SOFKIN values through their dedicated and enthusiastic participation in this event. Thanks to Home News Tribune, Indianera, Sentinel and TV Asia for the media coverage. We are confident that we will be able to achieve SOFKIN goals with your continued support and encouragement.
